THE NAME
The GO was there all along.
Embargo (noun): an official restriction on the movement people, goods, and ideas.
Life has its own versions. The closed door. The sensible advice. The invitation you almost talked yourself out of accepting.
We took the word apart and gave it somewhere to go.
MBARQ is the decision to set out. GO is the nerve to see where it leads.
We make things to wear, carry, and keep close along the way.

THE BEGINNING
A founder's note.
The passport taught me what to keep close. The journey taught me how to show up.
In fifth grade, on my first international trip, my passport was stolen. I learned early that some things belong secured on the body.
On my first solo trip as an adult in 2004, that lesson took on a new meaning. I wanted my essentials secure. I also wanted to move with style and intention, dress for the unexpected, and feel like the story was mine to lead.
That idea became MBARQGO. We began with a better way to carry what matters. Today, we create pieces to wear, carry, and live with—for wherever the story goes next.

A MBARQGO PRINCIPLE
It was something we said to one another in the early days. Over time, it came to mean much more.
What you carry: Your possessions. The things you choose to keep close.
Who you carry: Yourself. Your choices. Your responsibility.
Who you carry with you: The people and communities that make the journey possible. Weight isn't only what sits on your shoulders.
